Azureus (captive bred)
Dendrobates tinctorius ‘Azureus’
Blue poison dart frog (Captive bred)
Commonly called the Sky Blue Poison Dart Frog, Blue Poison Arrow Frog, or the Dyeing Poison Dart Frog (based on an early belief that natives used brightly colored frogs to dye fabric).
We recommend a minimum of a 20 gallon vivarium for 1 to 3 Dendrobates tinctorius 'Azureus' frogs.
Substrate recommendation for a bioactive layer: false bottom, substrate barrier, sphagnum moss and leaf litter are great and support microfauna populations, which help break down waste and mold within the tank.
Temperature range of 70° to 76° F. Temperatures over 85° can be fatal.
Azureus prefer a humidity range of 70–90%. Low humidity levels can quickly be fatal.
Feeding: Azureus poison dart frogs prefer smaller foods. All of the tinctorius dart frogs will readily eat Drosophila melanogaster fruit flies, Drosophila hydei fruit flies and enjoy springtails and isopods. All feeder insects should be dusted with a vitamin/mineral supplement.
